Job Title
On-Site EMT — Construction Site
Canton, MS
Position Summary
We are seeking a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to serve as the on-site medical responder for an active construction site. The primary purpose of this role is to provide first-aid and emergency first-response medical care to workers in the event of injury or illness. This is not a safety-inspection or policy-enforcement role — the EMT’s responsibilities are limited to medical response and first aid (stabilization and initial care) only.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the site’s designated first-aid responder: respond promptly to accidents, injuries, or medical emergencies occurring on site.
- Assess injured or ill individuals to determine the nature and extent of injury or illness, and establish appropriate first-aid treatment or emergency response.
- Administer basic first aid and life-support care as needed (e.g., wound care, stabilizing fractures where allowed under scope of practice, CPR or BLS if required).
- Coordinate with local emergency medical services (EMS) / ambulance / hospital for transport when injuries or illnesses exceed first-aid scope or require advanced medical care.
- Maintain first-aid supplies and equipment on site: inventory, restock, and ensure all supplies are accessible and ready for use.
- Keep accurate records of all medical incidents, treatment administered, and any follow-up or referrals as needed.
- Maintain means of communication for contacting EMS / ambulance / hospital / medical facilities in case of emergencies.
- Be available on site whenever work is ongoing — ready to respond immediately to any medical emergency or first-aid need.
Qualifications
- Valid EMT certification (or equivalent first-aid/EMT credentials) in good standing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical skills in first aid, BLS/CPR, wound care, injury stabilization, and emergency response.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, react quickly to emergencies, and make sound decisions regarding medical care on site.
- Strong communication skills — able to liaise with construction site management, workers, external EMS/hospital staff, and document medical incidents clearly and accurately.
- Physical ability to access all areas of a construction site; may include walking, climbing, and lifting or supporting injured workers, when needed. (Sites often include heavy equipment, uneven ground, and changing site conditions.)
- Flexibility and availability to cover routine shifts or be on-call, depending on project scheduling and site needs.
Working Conditions
- The role is located on-site at an active construction project.
- Expect exposure to typical construction site hazards — noise, dust/debris, machinery, uneven terrain — though the EMT’s role is not to enforce safety or inspect work; only to respond medically if needed.
- Work may require being on-call, variable shifts, and immediate response to incidents at any time during site operations.
Reporting & Collaboration
- The EMT reports to the site Safety Manager/Construction Site Manager (or designated site supervisor).
- In case of serious injury or illness beyond first aid scope, coordinate with external EMS/ambulance/hospital and site management for further care and documentation.
- Maintain communication with site management regarding first-aid supply levels, incident logs, and trends in medical incidents for potential safety feedback.
